One for All

Think about how you are reading this blog. You may be reading it on a tablet, iPhone, or simply your desktop computer. Thanks to the evolution of technology there are now many different platforms in which users can send and receive information. While these changes have been great for the user experience, it presents an interesting complication for website development. There is no way for us to guarantee what device you are going to use, and that is the cause for change in website design and development. There is now a need for a “one size fits all” website, and the solution is responsive website design.

A responsive website is a flexible design that will mold to the vast array of dimensions that exist in the digital marketplace. To be successful, your design will have to play by a few ground rules that didn’t exist when the only web browsing playground was a desktop computer. To name a few, these rules include scrapping flash animations, utilizing simplified and grid-based layouts, and trashing overstuffed navigation.

Again, it’s worth repeating that we are living in a time of major change due to the advancement and growth of technology, which affects how people interact with online information. In 2012, 8.5%* of the world population utilized their phone to access the web. It’s projected that this number has since increased to almost 15% with the introduction of more personal technology.

On our end, responsive website design demands that we step away from iterating on pixel-perfect comps and lean heavier on broader styles and visual guidelines. Let’s frame it this way – imagine taking liquid from one large vessel and putting it in another smaller vessel without losing any liquid. That is the essence of what is being accomplished when we construct your new responsive website.

In the past, it was suggested that companies have a mobile site that was essentially a condensed version of their desktop website. This strategy definitely has its pitfalls, such as limited content and functionality from the user standpoint and the need to update two websites each time a change was required from the management standpoint. Responsive website design creates the same user experience, no matter what device is being used.

Ilfusion understands and embraces responsive technology, and we utilize it expertly in order to provide our clients with better results. And when our clients win, we win. Let us know if you are ready to take your website design to the next level and begin providing the “one experience fits all” for your users. Also, stay tuned for the launch of our own new responsive website in November!
