Facebook Fail? G+ Plunder? Twitter Twoubles?
With all the social media out there to keep up with, it’s no wonder it can be overwhelming and take up all of a person’s time. Between the constant status updates, tweets, comments, notifications, suggestions, and apps, it’s enough to drive anyone mad. Sure there are different apps to link the platforms together and make it somewhat simpler and convenient for you, but the fight for your constant attention can get ugly and sometimes, you just want to surrender.
Even if you’re able to run from your computer, it isn’t easy to hide. There are still smartphones, iPads, palms, tablets, etc… ALL of them with the ability to let the world know what you just ate for lunch. Then, when the wild beasts of social media have you backed into a corner and are about to move in for the kill, wake up from your nightmare and remember that you can control them.
After getting a grip on yourself, check out some of the social media management platforms such as Hootsuite, TweetDeck, or Seesmic. There are tons out there and the fancier ones can cost a monthly fee, but depending on the features and what you need, any management platform is an incredibly helpful tool. Next, remember to filter through content. There’s too much out there to be able to keep on top of everything all the time, so use what is relevant and don’t spend hours stressing on content overload. Also, if you need a break, take one. Even if you have to turn OFF the push notifications on your mobile devices, it’s good to rest and clear your mind every once in a while.
So before you let social media fatigue get the best of you, don’t forget that YOU are in control. You’re the director, the head honcho, the big cheese, the top dog, the commander, the shot-caller, the… well you get the picture. So get out there and show social media who’s boss!
