Creating a Web Site Map to Success
When you’re working on multiple projects with multiple clients, one key skill to have to make sense of the chaos is organization. And when that chaos comes from website development, our organization tool is the Site Map.
A site map is a visual aid of how people will navigate through the website; a roadmap if you will. It includes all pages, tabs, their order, and how they all work together. The site map lays out the website priorities and the unique selling point. It allows us to see a general top-down view of the overall site contents from the About Us section to Contact Us and everything in between.
When creating a site map, we start with the basic: the main tabs. These include the generic contact tabs and the featured tabs, aka: what your business is selling.
This saves time for both the marketing company and the business because all navigation is established in the very beginning of the developing process. It also directs the copywriters to know which sections need copy and the flow of the pages.
Last but not least, always keep the outline of the site map in the back of your mind during the entire process. It’s the overall roadmap to website success!
