How to Boost SEO with Video

It’s a fact: people like watching videos. And even though the the video-watching platform has evolved (anyone else remember the VHS tape?), the effect video can have for a business is still astounding. It’s no wonder why just about every company, large and small, has a YouTube channel, Vimeo subscription, or a video gallery on their website (if you don’t, we can take care of that for you!) because when used correctly, that’s a major SEO boost.

After you shoot your video and you’re uploading it to your platform of choice, think carefully about the URL, title, description, and tag words. These are what search engines pick up on when performing an internet keyword search. For maximum SEO, start with your title. Be creative and think about key phrases that capture the topic of the video and your target audience’s interest.

In the description box, ALWAYS start with the website URL link. Follow that up with a short paragraph that utilizes keywords and the previously created title. This little box may not seem like much to you, but it’s big in Google’s eyes since this is what they use to determine search keywords.

Don’t forget your tags! Again, take those main phrases from your title and description to include in your tags list. If you’re using a phrase, make sure to enclose it in quotation marks as well as commas to separate each one.

Of course, the longer people stay on your page to watch a video, the higher up Google is going to rank you. Think of it like this: video increases time spent on your site, therefore it decreases your bounce rate. If you’re going to take the time to create a video, upload it, add SEO value, and promote it, you might as well make an entertaining one that people want to watch!
